Information-theoretic problems of DNA-based storage systems

Introduction: Currently, we witness an explosive growth in the amount of information produced by humanity. This raises new fundamental problems its efficient storage and processing. Commonly used magnetic, optical, semiconductor devices have several drawbacks related to small density limited durability. One promising novel approaches solving these is DNA-based data storage. Purpose: An overview modern systems information-theoretic problems. Results: The current state art reviewed. Types errors occurring them as well corresponding error-correcting codes are analized. disadvantages shown, possible pathways for improvement mentioned. Proposed models analyzed, their limitation highlighted. In conclusion, main obstacles practical implementation formulated, which can be potentially overcome using methods considered this overview.
